"We can't change the past but with insight,
Welcome, and thank you for visiting GVB Psychotherapy, my name is Greg Van Beurden
I am a qualified psychodynamic counsellor and am professionally registered with the British Association of Counsellors and Psychotherapists. I work to the highest ethical standards and hold a Foundation Degree (with distinction) in Psychodynamic Counselling. Working psychodynamically means jointly exploring how past experiences shape present patterns of feelings and behaviours.
If you or a family member is or has been impacted by chronic or terminal physical illness such as cancer, I bring a wealth of experience, supporting clients facing emotional and psychological challenges such as bereavement, anxiety, depression and relationship issues. Having previously lived abroad as well as working in the corporate world, I also have first-hand experience of understanding and supporting life transitions. Learn more about how I work here.
I work on a long-term basis with my clients, meaning a joint exploration at your own pace, to heal, gain insight and make meaningful changes. The challenges of life can feel overwhelming and having the space to speak about things with someone who has no other place in your day-to-day life can be very helpful. People come to counselling for many different reasons. It may be a specific situation which is causing you distress or a more general sense of dissatisfaction or a feeling of being stuck in your life.

Therapy is a space where you can speak freely, without fear of judgment. Everything shared is treated with sensitivity and confidentiality, allowing you to explore difficult emotions and experiences at your own pace.

As a qualified psychodynamic counsellor, I help clients understand how past experiences may be influencing current deeply meaningful thoughts, feelings and behaviours - they may be subconscious but bringing those into your awareness offers the opportunity for insight and the possibility for change.

I offer compassionate counselling for individuals affected by chronic or terminal illness, such as cancer. Together, we can explore the emotional impact of illness, loss, and change in a safe and supportive space.

I offer face to face sessions from my practice at 41, Abbeville Road, SW4 9JX , easily reachable from Clapham South and beyond.
Online therapy sessions via Teams are also available.
Sessions last 50 minutes and cost £75. They are held weekly and are at a fixed time.
I work face to face in Clapham South on Friday mornings or I offer online appointments in the evenings during the week (both subject to availability). Please get in touch, calls texts or emails will be responded to within 24 hours, and we will arrange a brief phone call (no more than 15 minutes) to understand what brings you to therapy and for you to get a feel as to whether you wish to proceed with myself. If you are happy to proceed then we can book your first appointment or if you want to think about it first, no problem at all. This may be your first time in therapy or you may have had other therapy, all therapists are different so I am happy to answer any questions you may have. The first session or initial consultation once booked will entail a more detailed understanding of the issues.
No session has a particular agenda; your therapy session is your time and the material you wish to discuss is your decision.
There may be periods of silence during the session, this is entirely normal and we will progress at your pace.
It is understood that therapy may evoke occasional and/or short-term uncomfortable feelings in yourself, this is to be expected as we seek to understand long-term patterns of feelings and behaviour.
Compassion, empathy, confidentiality and being non-judgemental are fundamental to the way I work.
Therapy provides a safe, confidential space to talk about the emotional impact of illness or loss. Whether you're grieving a loved one or coping with a diagnosis, counselling can help you process complex feelings, find meaning, and feel less alone.
Not at all. People come to therapy for many reasons — sometimes just to talk, reflect, or make sense of things. If something is troubling you or you feel stuck, therapy can offer support and clarity in jointly finding a focus for your therapy.
This varies from person to person. Some people come for a few sessions, while others find longer-term therapy more helpful. We’ll discuss what feels right for you during our initial meetings.
Yes. What you share in therapy is kept confidential, in line with professional ethical standards. There are rare exceptions related to safety, which I’ll explain clearly at the start of our work together.

Feel free to contact me if you have any questions about how psychotherapy works, or to arrange an initial assessment appointment. This enables us to discuss the reasons you are thinking of coming to therapy, whether it could be helpful for you and whether I am the right therapist to help.
You can also call me on 07990148521 if you would prefer to leave a message or speak to me first. I am happy to discuss any queries or questions you may have prior to arranging an initial appointment.
All enquires are usually answered within 24 hours, and all contact is strictly confidential and uses secure phone and email services. Read my Privacy Policy here.
